What are Psychological Immigration Evaluations?

Psychological immigration evaluations, also known as mental health evaluations for immigration, are in-depth assessments conducted by licensed mental health professionals to support immigration cases. These evaluations play a crucial role in helping individuals demonstrate the emotional and psychological impact of the challenges they have endured, such as hardship, trauma, abuse, or persecution, and how these experiences connect to their immigration status.

The goal of a psychological immigration evaluation is to provide a detailed, professional report that explains your experiences in medical and legal language. This report is often requested by immigration attorneys to strengthen cases for VAWA petitions, U Visas, T Visas, asylum applications, or hardship waivers. The evaluation serves as a critical piece of evidence, offering insight into how your past experiences have affected your mental health and overall well-being.

How can a Psychological Immigration Evaluation help my case?

Our evaluations are more than just paperwork—they are a comprehensive and holistic assessment of your experience, told with the care and accuracy you deserve.

Q&A
  • Only a licensed mental health professional—such as a psychologist, counselor, or social worker—can conduct psychological immigration evaluations. These professionals have the expertise to document the mental and emotional impact of your experiences in a way that meets legal requirements.

  • I understand this process can be stressful, but my goal is to create a supportive environment where you feel comfortable sharing your story. I will go at your pace and take the time to understand your situation fully. You don’t have to have all the answers—I’m here to help guide you through it.

  • Yes, information disclosed during an Immigration Evaluation is confidential, and your privacy is protected by law. The evaluator will discuss the limits of confidentiality during the initial session and will only disclose information with your consent or in situations where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others. Your confidentiality and privacy are taken seriously throughout the evaluation process.

  • The cost depends on the type of immigration assessment and the number of family members or relatives we will be interviewing. Generally, an in-depth psychological evaluation will vary between $1,000 to $1,300.

  • It’s important to emphasize that while a psychological evaluation can significantly strengthen a client’s case, I cannot guarantee the outcome. Nevertheless, these evaluations often play a crucial role in the immigration process.

  • Due to the short-term nature of the evaluation, the full payment is due at the time of service. However, if a payment plan is needed, I require half of the cost to hold the appointment. The other half is due at the completion of the written report. *Please note that the final report will not be released until payment has been made in full
